If you were fortunate to catch Nobuhiko Obayahshi’s epic of weirdness and surreal, House during its all too brief run at the New Beverly Cinema, you obviously need and want to see the film again. It is that kind of a film. A film you want to watch again immediately after the first or even second viewing.
Now, according to the fine folks over at the New Beverly cinema, it’s going to be a while before House returns and that’s a shame. House would be a perfect monthly midnight movie for Los Angeles. A perfect midnight movie for the ciudad because unlike our current reigning midnight movie champion, The Room, audience participation will not make House better. Yes, laughing as a big group makes it an engaging film, but the crowd does not need to throw spoons or shout at the top of their lungs. House is an experience.
After looking at the film’s current touring schedule, it does appear that the film may not come back to the New Beverly until October! Sure, a great movie for the spookiest month of the year, but, the IFC Center in New York showed the film for two months! From January until this Saturday! What kind of hooey is that? What makes the IFC Center so much better than the New Beverly? How is the IFC Center a great champion of the weird and the unusual? Does Janus Film really truly understand Los Angeles and its love for oddball cinema?
So, I ask you to flood Janus Films and the New Beverly Cinema with requests to show House again! You can contact Janus Films: booking@janusfilms.com and you can Twitter them at: @janusfilms and you can Facebook them here. For the New Beverly Cinema: Contact, @newbeverly, and their Facebook page.
If we demand it, it will come.
